Colin Willavize

Day time Job: I spent 38 years working in an office/factory environment and took early retirement in December 2017. My last 10 years being a quality engineer looking after a busy moulding shop.
Move: My wife and I moved to Norfolk in July 2018 with our two Rottweilers. Living on the outskirts of Caister-on-Sea was a big change from Luton in Bedfordshire.
Joined Caister Lifeboat: Early in 2019 I was talking to a crew member who talked me into volunteering with Caister Lifeboat. Starting off washing down the boats after training or shouts, I soon realised that this was something I wanted to be more involved in. Mid 2019 I accepted the role of beach master, making sure the public, crew and boat remained safe during launch and recovery. Later in the year our company secretary approached me and asked if I would become his assistant taking on some of the administration. I had no idea that in such a short time after this I would become the acting company secretary when Derek sadly passed away.
Caister lifeboat crew and directors have all shown me great friendship and encouragement. I never would have thought that in retirement I would pass my “sea survival” course, and get to participate in sea training. Hopefully one day I get to be included on shouts and put into practice the great training I’m receiving.

As an independent Lifeboat we depend entirely on donations
