The Caister Lifeboat Experience

Climb aboard, look around and get hands-on with the fascinating story of Caister’s independent lifeboats. Inside our heritage museum, you’ll find original artefacts, interactive displays and first-hand accounts of real rescues.

Our friendly volunteers are always on hand to share stories, answer questions and bring the exhibits to life — many have close ties to the lifeboat station itself, so you’ll be hearing history straight from the source.

Children can even dress up in lifeboat gear and explore what it takes to be part of a modern-day crew — it’s a visit full of discovery for all ages.

Just next door, you can see our two operational boats — Annette Thurlow and Fred Dyble II — ready for service at any moment.

"Explore the history of our lifeboat station with our volunteers - perfect for all ages." - Richard Thurlow, Coxwain

Your visit helps us train volunteer crews, maintain our lifeboats, and continue saving lives at sea — a tradition that’s been part of Caister for over 200 years.

Chloe, Warwickshire

"The lifeboat experience at the museum was really interesting, and the volunteers took time to speak to us and were so knowledgeable. It was fascinating to see the first lifeboat used and the current one too. "

David Playfoot

"What a perfect little lifeboat station! They have a permanent museum telling you all about this independent lifeboat station. Everything from the lives they saved to the new modern-day lifeboat. You can go on the deck of a lovely wooden lifeboat as well."

Shaun D.

"There are some wonderful things to look at and we were allowed to step onto one of the restored old lifeboats."
